UNDERGRADUATE RESEARCH PROJECTS
Operators’ Emotion Tracking
This project aims to develop a system that can detect emotions of assembly line operators using images of facial expressions. The system will use machine learning algorithms to classify the emotions into different categories, such as happy, sad, angry, or neutral. The project will start with a simple multi-class classification problem using images, then transition to videos. The system will be implemented into the stations on our assembly line, and will provide real-time feedback to the operators.
Real Time Object Detection
The goal of this project is to create an object recognition application in an assembly process by accurately identifying and recognizing various parts and components. This is achieved through the use of image processing and machine learning algorithms using YOLO, which analyze images or video feeds of the production line to identify specific parts. Once the parts are recognized, the application will then provide specific assembly instructions.
Inventory Monitoring System
The project aims to modify an existing inventory control and cycle time measurement system that was previously developed in Power BI and migrate it to a Google Cloud-based solution. The new solution should be scalable to include the 6 stations, and should leverage Google Cloud’s services for data processing, storage, and analytics.
Assembly Station Utilization
The goal of this project is to create a sensing system to determine the occupancy and up/down times of stations in an assembly line. The project involves setting up sensors at each station to detect when workers are present and using the data collected to determine the amount of time each station is occupied or idle. This information can then be displayed on a home assistant dashboard, providing a real-time view of the status of each station on the assembly line.
MiR/UR10 Integration
Aiming to explore the impact of robotics in the manufacturing environment, this project’s goal is to create a robotic inventory management system for our assembly line. The project will include exploration with the UR10 robotic arm to load the MiR robot to deliver material to the assembly line.
